FAQ's (Frequently Asked Questions)
How does your Subscription Plan work? With our plan you choose what vegetables you want and the quantity of each. Prior to the growing season you will fill out an email survey of your produce preferences. During the growing season you will receive a weekly list of what is available. You will indicate the items you want to receive and return the list to us.
Why do I have to pay for the whole season up front? Can I pay by the week or the month? Paying for your seasonal share up front tells how much to plant, it gives us the money to purchase seeds and other materials, and it protects you from market fluctuation. However, we do have another option, “From the Farm Stand”, that allows you to pay at the beginning of each month. You are still able to pre-order items while making a shorter term commitment. Whatever plan you choose, a membership fee is required along with your signed contract. From the Farmstand requires a $50.00 prepayment that can be used toward purchases anytime during the growing season.
What other products do you offer? In addition to vegetables and fruits, we have a variety of other products available. We have our own beehives and produce our own wildflower honey! We raise our own laying chickens to produce farm fresh, nutritious eggs. We grow fresh flowers, herbs, and lots of fruits. Occasionally, we'll offer products from other local farmers. Plus, we have several fee based educational workshops throughout the year. You can use any money from your account balance towards these products or events.
Can members visit the farm? Absolutely! We feel it is important to see where and how your produce is grown. We will open Monday through Wednesdays starting in May. Or please call or email us ahead of time to make sure we are home, to check the condition of our road, and that we have the time to show you around. If you show up un-announced we will probably put you to work.
How does the pick-up work? You can pick up at the farm or at the Canton Farmer's Market. It is recommended that you bring a cooler or thermal bag to help keep your produce at its freshest during transportation.
What if I can’t pick up my order? If something comes up and you are not able to pick-up your produce simply let us know, and we can try to make other arrangements.
Do you use chemicals on your plants? We occasionally use products approved by organic growing practices, but that is extremely rare. We are as committed to the health of the earth and its inhabitants as we are to providing safe, quality produce. Our recipe for friendly growing practices includes water, sunshine and lots of hard work! No synthetic chemicals. Because you are making a commitment to us, our commitment to you is to provide the very best of our harvest.
What is sustainable Farming? This approach to farming is a continous improvement approach. For us it includes organic growing practices and planning for biodiversity. Not only in our produce but in our trees, shrubs, flowers, and grasses, which ultimely creates a healthy and diverse habitat for wildlife. It also means making a living wage. See "Our Growing Practices" for more detailed information.
